Welcome

The West Riding Woodturners Group was formed in 1989 and its aims are to promote the craft of woodturning, to provide a meeting-place for turners to meet, talk and learn, and to maintain a sociable and friendly environment. Club meetings are held at 7.30pm on the first Tuesday of each month in the Memorial Hall at Eldwick, near Bingley, West Yorkshire, and are friendly, social occasions usually finishing around 10:00pm - 10:30pm. There is a bar attached to the hall and our meetings are well-attended and enjoyable events.
Professional demonstrators are engaged at most meetings, with occasional demonstrations or talks by club members (to which members may bring their work for critique) The Annual General Meeting is held in April. We demonstrate at several shows and exhibitions each year, with members often doing well in competitions at these and similar events, and twice yearly hold open days (“Hands-on”) with 8-10 lathes working, and to which members may come for guidance and instruction.
The club has two lathes, demonstrations are videoed using two cameras and projected on a large screen. We also have access to radio-microphones and a loudspeaker system.
A Newsletter is occasionally circulated by e-mail to members and posted to the  Club Website when there is any item of particular interest.
Membership stands at around 70, including three of the original founders, and skill levels range from raw beginner up to our professional, Bob Chapman, a regular contributor to woodturning magazines. Visitors are welcome to attend three meetings free of charge, after which they must join the club if they wish to continue. Membership runs from January to December, with reduced subscriptions for those joining in July or later.
